Thor the Dark World

Spoiler review

"Thor The Dark World" is entertaining but a disappointing sequel to a great first movie. In my opinion, it is the weakest MCU movie in the franchise. This film takes place after the avengers defeated Loki who is put on trial for treason and is sentenced to life in prison. Thor fights to bring peace back to the nine realms with the help of an evil foe and dark elf, Malekith. Malekith finds one of the infinity stones Aether to bring darkness back into the nine realms. Meanwhile back on earth, Jane Foster studies the convergence or the alignment of the nine worlds. During her investigation, she gets infected with the Aether. Thor rescues Jane and takes her to Asgard for safety. There are some positives in this movie. First, I loved the mystic world of Asgard. The construction scenes of this fantasy, make believe world were fascinating. Second, Alan Taylor did an extraordinary job with directing the movie and expanding the world of imagination to the viewer through real-life action and battle scenes. Finally, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki portrayed their characters with courage, vigor and non-stop interaction. On the other hand, I did not enjoy the romance between Thor and Jane Foster; there was no chemistry between the characters and seemed fake. Some of the humor missed its mark throughout the movie and fell flat. Also, "Thor" lacked a strong villain. The character Malekith reminded me of an old Star Trek television series typecast—too predictable. This movie was not my favorite MCU movie. I will give it a 3/5 stars.
