Movie Review:

“John Wick chapter 2” proves that action movie sequels can be good, but not as good as the original. What makes John Wick a good sequel is that the director expands and centers on the continuing story of John Wick by branching out and developing an interesting plotline. After John ended his revenge against the Russian mob that took everything from him, he plans to retire. But his retirement is cut short after an old friend named Santino D’Antonio shows up on his doorstep with a golden marker making John repay a past favor. John refuses and Santino blows up his house. Left with no choice but to accept Santino’s proposal John travels to Rome to take out D’ Antonio’s sister who is the leader of the Italian Camorra crime syndicate. Keanu Reeves reprises his role as John Wick and you can tell that he cares about this franchise and wants it to continue. Once again, he does about 95% of his own stunts. The actions scenes are the backbone of this movie and are choreographed to perfection but very violent; especially, the scene that takes place underground--it blew my mind, and the last shooting scene—high body count and very bloody. As with the first John Wick film, the supporting cast with the addition of Common (who plays the head of security of D’Antonnio’s sister) is amazing. I have a few reservations about this movie. I did not buy Ruby Rose as an assassin. She was not believable in the role and was a casting mistake. I didn’t really like the villain character. It was the “typical” action movie villain and lacked originality. In my opinion, “John Wick chapter 2” was entertaining but not as good as the first John Wick so I am going to give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
