True Grit

Synopsis:

After an outlaw named Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) murders her father, feisty 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) hires Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), a boozy, trigger-happy lawman, to help her find Chaney and avenge her father. The bickering duo are not alone in their quest, for a Texas Ranger named LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) is also tracking Chaney for reasons of his own. Together the unlikely trio ventures into hostile territory to dispense some Old West justice.

Movie Review:

‘True Grit” is the best modern western to hit the big screen in a very long time with its exciting action, comedic moments and great acting by the cast. This is a remake of the 1969 John Wayne classic and might be better than the original. I have to give credit where credit is due—the talented Coen brothers. Ethan and Joel Coen’s stylish direction makes the film feel fresh and can stand on its own. Breakout star Hailee Stienfeld gives a stunning performance; a mature professional beyond her years. She steals the show as the film’s main protagonist seeking vengeance for her father’s death. Also the supporting cast of Jeff Bridges (Rooster Cogburn) and Matt Damon (Texas Ranger Laboeuf) who together, help Mattie Ross track the man who killed her father fit the role nicely. Through the direction of the Coen Brothers and cinematographer Rodger Deakin the landscapes of the Wild West are beautifully captured and depict realistic backdrops which enabled exciting action packed shootout scenes. I believe “True Grit” is one of the best westerns in recent years. This movie is perfection…I give “True Grit” 5 out of 5 stars.
