Movie Review:

“21 Jump Street” is a remake of an 80’s drama series that turned into a comedy, and I believe it is the funniest comedy I’ve seen in theaters in a very long time. This movie shouldn’t have worked but it did because of a funny script and great directors at the helm. Written by Michael Beacall and Jonah Hill, the script is sharp with wit and very crude at the same time. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have great chemistry together off screen as real-life friends and on screen as comedic partners. I was surprised that Channing Tatum could do comedy so well. The dialogue for this movie is full of pop culture references that poke fun at high school life which any young adult can relate to. Ice Cube is one of the funniest characters in the movie. He plays Captain Dickson, the captain of the Jump Street division. His delivery of his lines, comedic timing, and interaction with fellow actors is well performed every time he speaks and he is hilarious to watch. The supporting cast of Brie Larson, James Franco and especially, Rob Riggle, the main drug dealer in the movie, is really funny and adds depth to each scene. The action in the movie is well done for a comedy and keeps the tempo going throughout. This movie would never have worked without the two comedic geniuses who directed the film, Phil Lord and Chris Millar. They understand the physical and the push and pull of hyper comedy that works. The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that some people might find the comedy offensive and crude. “ 21 Jump Street” is a guts busting, laugh out loud comedy that works on all the right levels. If you like the classic rude and vulgar comedy as I do than, you will enjoy this one. I am giving “21 Jump Street” a 4 out of 5 stars.
