Batman Returns

Synopsis:

When a corrupt businessman and the grotesque Penguin plot to take control of Gotham City, only Batman can stop them, while the Catwoman has her own agenda.

Movie Review:

“Batman Returns” is the second of the Batman movies and was directed once again by Tim Burton. Because of the success of the first Batman, Warner Brothers gave Burton more creative control with this film resulting in some good and bad elements about the movie. Let me start by discussing the good things I liked. First, lead actor Michael Keaton, once again, delivers a superb performance as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman. He does not disappoint his fans as he balances the two characters. Also, the action scenes are well filmed, dramatic and exciting to watch; typical of Tim Burton’s direction style. In addition new comers, Michelle Pfieffer and Christopher Walkin are excellent in their supporting roles. Pfieffer is sexy, spunky and strong-willed as Catwoman. She definitely has chemistry with Batman in all the scenes they share together. Now the bad elements of the movie--I did not like the way that Danny Devito portrayed the Penguin. He was a little over the top and over acted in most of his scenes. The Penguin taking newborn children of Gotham and drowning them in toxic waste is a ridiculous plot twist. The bigger problem I had with this movie is that it doesn’t feel like a batman superhero movie at all… It feels more like a dark gothic Tim Burton movie that spends more time making Gotham City seem realistic, rather than focusing on developing and expanding our courageous comic book superhero characters we all have come to know and love. In my opinion “Batman Returns” has some enjoyable moments, but overall it is a disappointing squeal. I am giving “Batman Returns” 2 out of 5 stars.
