Movie Review:

“Quantum of Solace” is the 22nd James Bond film and the second one starring Daniel Craig. In my opinion, this movie is very disappointing and less impressive than the previous Bond film “Casino Royale”. There are two main problems with the movie; it lacks an exciting story and a compelling villain. The villain is Dominic Greene played by Mathieu Amalric. He is mediocre at best playing this role. He is not a convincing villain and the audience doesn’t really care about him—just another evil guy. But the bigger issue about this movie is the script. The movie was interrupted during its making because of the writers’ strike and it felt rushed with the final product, resulting in a film that lacked a fascinating and gripping plot which brought the entire movie down for me. However, there are some things I liked about the movie, especially the cast. Olga Kurylenko plays the Bond girl who is a Bolivian Agent and has her own agenda against Greene. She is really good in the role. Daniel Craig is once again great as Bond. He brings a sense of grittiness and charm expected of a Bond character and adds toughness to Bond in this film because of the emotional love loss in the last movie. Judie Dench is great as M and is always fun to watch perform. This movie does have some cool moments of action like the opening car chase, the roof chase and the finale. The problem with the actions scenes is they are edited poorly making the scenes too shaky and not easily visible. This movie just doesn’t feel like a Bond film--it feels like a typical action movie with someone named James Bond in it. I am a huge James Bond fan but a bad script combined with bad production problems equals an unsatisfactory movie. I have no choice but to give “Quantum of Solace” a 2 out of 5 stars.
