Ant-Man

Synopsis:

Forced out of his own company by former protégé Darren Cross, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) recruits the talents of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a master thief just released from prison. Lang becomes Ant-Man, trained by Pym and armed with a suit that allows him to shrink in size, possess superhuman strength and control an army of ants. The miniature hero must use his new skills to prevent Cross, also known as Yellowjacket, from perfecting the same technology and using it as a weapon for evil.

Movie review:

“Ant-Man” is the 11th film of the MCU and is an original story of the character. “Ant-Man” was Marvels biggest gamble because no one really knew the superhero character. Regardless of Ant-Man’s popularity, Marvel proved once again that they can make a fun, enjoyable superhero film about a comic book character. This movie is smaller in scale than Marvel’s last film “Avengers Age of Ultron” and might be a better quality film. So far this is one of the funniest movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that I’ve seen because of the comedic script written by Edger wright, Joe Cornsih, Adam Mcay, and Paul Rudd. Since Rudd’s character has a thief’s background, this movie feels more like a heist film rather than a superhero movie, which is not a bad thing. Paul Rudd is perfect as Ant-Man. His quick-wit timing and comedy training brings humor in all his interactions with the other characters but in a refined way. My favorite character in this movie is Scott Lang’s friend, Luis played by Michael Pena. Pena’s performance is hilarious and delivers his lines with fun and ease. Michael Douglas also gives a powerful performance as Dr. Hank Pym, Scott Lang’s mentor and father figure. The action in in this movie is exciting and keeps the flow going. The direction was impressive in part to Peyton Reed who films the scenes of Ant-Man shrinking than returning to normal size in a realistic way. However, there are a few problems in this movie. There is nothing special about the villain. Yellow Jacket Aron Cross played by Corey Stroll is just another typical Marvel villain who is evil, wants money and shrink things. Also, some of the supporting characters are wasted like Evangeline Lilly who plays Hope. Her character lacks development and purpose—just boring. Even with its flaws, this movie is still great and might be one of the funniest MCU movies released so far. I am giving “Ant-Man” 4 out of 5 stars.
