Movie review:

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2" is the sequel to the 2014 surprise hit which is one of my favorite MCU movies. This one, however, is really entertaining but suffers from poor pacing and a convoluted plot that doesn’t start until the 3rd and final act of the film. What this film does well is that it reveals more information about the five main characters. The character of Star Lord (Chris Pratt) gets to meet his father, Ego (Kurt Russell) who helps him understand his past. We get to learn more about Gamor’s ( Zoe Saldana) past with her sister Nebula ( Karen Gillian) and it explains why Nebula despises her sister and why she is so jealous of her. The writing in this movie is superb and the dialogue flows throughout. My favorite story line of the movie is when Rocket Raccoon ( Bradley Cooper) and Yondu have to escape the Ravenger Prison to get back to where Peter and his fellow Guardians are. Rocket Racoon's and Yondu's chemistry and interactions make this movie. The way they used Baby Groot in this film was really funny and cute as he stole the show every time he was on screen. The soundtrack in the movie was great but not as good as the first film’s soundtrack, but the music that they played during this film fit the tone of the movie with its 60’s and 70’s vibe. The one character that I felt that was under used was Drax the destroyer (Dave Bautista). I loved him in the first film, but he only had one action scene and it was in the beginning of the movie. Instead, he was used as more of a comedic addition; he was one of the funniest characters in the movie. Marvel has always had some unpopular, dull villains and the trend still continues with the group known as the sovereign (also known as the gold people). They are just there to move the plot around and the movie always slows down every time they are on screen. Nebula (Karen Gillian) is a good actor but not in this particular role. It seems like every time she is on screen she is always too over-the-top dramatic with her yelling most of the time. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2" is an action packed and funny sequel despite some pacing and story glitches, but the revelations exposed about the lead characters make up for these problems—this sequel is a great emotional ride worth seeing. I am giving "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" a 3 out of 5 stars.
