Synopsis:

When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-man (Tobey Maguire) for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's (James Franco) hatred for Spider-man and his true love's (Kirsten Dunst) sudden engagement to another man.

Movie Review:

"Spider-man 2" is the second Spider-man movie with the same director, Sam Raimi and most of the main cast returning. In my opinion, "Spider-man 2" might just be one of the best comic book movies of all time for many reasons. First, it is a great emotional story about Peter Parker and his love of Mary Jane and his trouble balancing life as Peter Parker and Spider-man. Second, the film has a better and more compelling villian, Doctor Octopus. This villain makes you understand why he is doing these bad and evil things. Third, there are great action scenes that are exciting and nail biting. Fourth, the supporting cast has some powerful scenes and interacts well with the Spider-man character. The cast includes: James Franco as Harry Osborne is very emotional in this film and has more to do than in the original "Spider-man". In addition Rosemary Harris is back as Aunt May and once again gives a touching performance as a grieving widower. Of course the best thing in this movie is J.K Simmons as J. Johana Jamanson. He is hilarious as this character and makes it his own, and he makes me laugh every time I watch this movie. Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire have better chemistry in this movie than the first one and are believable together as a couple. The script was written by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Michael Chabon. The plot is clever and fun, with great characters. Everything worked in this film and I loved it— great action, emotional and touching scenes with heartwarming character moments. I am giving "Spider-man 2" a 5 out of 5 stars.
