Aliens

Synopsis:

After floating in space for 57 years, Lt. Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) shuttle is found by a deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV-426, the marines find only one survivor, a nine year old girl named Newt (Carrie Henn). But even these battle-hardened marines with all the latest weaponry are no match for the hundreds of aliens that have invaded the colony.

Movie Review:

"Aliens" is the sequel to the original classic science fiction horror film simply called "Alien". James Cameron replaced Ridley Scott in directing and turned it into a straight up action movie that is intense and pulse pounding. The only cast member that returned from the first film was Sigourney Weaver as the iconic female character, Ellen Ripley. After she was floating in hyper sleep more than 57 years, Ripley is still being haunted by the nightmares of the Xenomorph. Sigourney Weaver gives one of her best performances as this strong character who wants revenge from the aliens that took her whole life away. Michael Biehn plays Hicks, one of main Marines, who help Ripley. Biehn has a great presence on screen and is enjoyable to watch in this film. One of the best characters in this film is Bill Paxton as Private. Hudson. He is funny and likeable in the movie and says one of those one-liners like “Game over Man” that the audience remembers long after the movie is over. The only character I had a problem with was Newt the little girl Ripley found on LV-426 and treats her like a daughter. The Newt character is without purpose and just cries and whines throughout the film to the point that it is annoying. Like the first film, "Aliens" has great scares from the Xenomorphs with lots of frightening imagery and gory scenes; however, this film is much scarier than the first because instead of one alien there are hundreds of them, and the look and design of the Xenomorphs are chilling and terrifying to look at. The action scenes and the shootouts in the movie are intense and chilling—they will give you goosebumps. This movie never would have been successful or popular without James Cameron as the director. He made this horror franchise his own by turning a science fiction horror movie into an intense action movie with memorable moments and quotable lines that are famous today. "Aliens" has an unforgettable strong female lead, incredible action scenes, memorable characters, great supporting cast and genius directing—a winning combination. "Aliens" is one of my favorite science fiction horror action movies of all time so I am giving it a 5 out of 5 stars.
