the Man From U.N.C.L.E

Synopsis:

At the height of the Cold War, a mysterious criminal organization plans to use nuclear weapons and technology to upset the fragile balance of power between the United States and Soviet Union. CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) are forced to put aside their hostilities and work together to stop the evildoers in their tracks. The duo's only lead is the daughter of a missing German scientist, whom they must find soon to prevent a global catastrophe.

Movie Review:

"The Man From U.N.C.L.E." is a spy action adventure movie directed by Guy Richie. It is a classic spy thriller with enjoyable moments in it. Henry Cavill plays the CIAs best agent as Napoleon Solo. Cavill knows how to play suave and charming and I think he could be cast as James Bond one day. Armie Hammer plays KGB agent Illya Kuryakin and was better than I thought he was going to be; his Russian accent was flawless and he was funny in all the right places as this character. Cavill and Hammer are the best things in this movie with non-stop chemistry between them that works as they both hate each other but are forced to work together for one common goal to save both of their countries. They also capture this rivalry between each other trying to see who the better spy is perfectly. Alicia Vikander is also great as Gabby, the character who gets caught between Solo and Kuryakin. Her interactions with Cavill and Hammer are fun to watch on screen. Guy Richie, known for his stylish ways, captures the time and the feel of the 60s era with trendy costumes that are modish and chic, and the production design is picture-perfect with a lot of references to the classic spy films in the past. This movie is full of exciting action scenes like the car chase in the beginning that felt like an old school spy film; but there are some scenes that get a little shaky cam and seem a little lazy. The third act of the movie is a little rushed and felt like a montage of unrelated action scenes that really didn't flow. The villain of the movie is played by Elizabeth Debicki. Her character lacks likeability and didn’t really offer anything new to the spy genre. Hugh Grant is also in this movie and plays Alexander Waverly who is the head of the Mi6. Grant's performance is worth seeing; unfortunately his character is wasted and doesn't have enough screen time. I would like to see a sequel to this movie "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." is a cool, new take on an otherwise classic spy adventure and I would love to see a sequel to this movie, even though it is more style than substance. I am giving "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." a 3 out of 5 stars.
