Movie Review:

Star Wars Episode V the Empire Strikes Back" is one of my favorite sequels. Usually making sequels better than the original is hard to do, but "Empire Strikes Back" succeeds with better storytelling and character development than the original. We get to learn more about the characters we grew to care about; Luke Skywalker’s parentage, why Jabba the Hutt is after Han, and Han's feelings for Princess Leia. "The Empire Strikes Back" finds Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca faced with an attack on Hoth by the Empire causing the group to split up. This is one of the reasons why I love this film because each character has their own storyline. Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and C3PO must escape imperial forces and regroup with the rebel forces while Luke heads to Dagobah to train from the legendary Jedi Master Yoda. Yoda is one of my favorite new characters introduced in the movie because he is wise and funny and bought t a new dynamic between him and Luke. We see this relationship unfolding as Yoda trains Luke to be wiser and more patient — Yoda and Luke share great chemistry in all their scenes. Another new character is an old friend of Han Solo, Lando Calriassian, played by Billy Dee Williams who is charismatic and very charming as he gives shelter to Han on Cloud City from the Empire. The visual effects of the movie are better than the effects in the first "Star Wars" film mainly because technology has improved from the 70's to the 80's; real models are now portrayed in battle scenes and the Falcon scene is easily one of the most thrilling and entertaining scene in the entire movie. Han and Leia have great chemistry with each other because they are believable as a couple and share funny and sensitive conversations. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when Luke confronts Darth Vader on Cloud City to rescue Han and Leia and it turns out to be a trap, it is so powerful to watch. Finding out that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father is one of the best plot twists in cinematic history. To this day, the audience didn't see this surprise reveal. This particular scene is still heartbreaking and emotional to view. "Star Wars episode V the Empire Strikes Back" is one of the best "Star Wars" films to date and it is one of my favorite sequels of all time. I am giving this movie a 5 out of 5 stars.
