The Amazing Spider-man

Snyopsis:

Abandoned by his parents and raised by an aunt and uncle, teenager Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), AKA Spider-Man, is trying to sort out who he is and exactly what his feelings are for his first crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). When Peter finds a mysterious briefcase that was his father's, he pursues a quest to solve his parents' disappearance. His search takes him to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), setting him on a collision course with Connors' alter ego, the Lizard.

Movie Review:

'The Amazing Spider-Man" is the fourth Spider-man movie and is a total reboot of the franchise after the disappointing "Spider-man 3". Sony pictures decided to go in a different direction to give us the untold story of Spider-Man's origin…unfortunately AGAIN. This is the biggest problem about this movie; it feels too much like a copycat of the first Spider-Man movie that came out in 2002. But there are still some good and enjoyable scenes in this movie and a talented cast like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Their chemistry with each other on screen is outstanding and you believe them as a couple. Andrew Garfield was the right choice to portray the Spider-Man character. He has the physicality of a superhero and delivers the funny dialogue in a natural way. In my opinion, his performance as Spider-Man is better than Tobey Maguire's. Also, Emma Stone is great as Gwen Stacy, Peter's first love. She is heartwarming, attractive and cleverly witty as Gwen. Rhys Ifans plays Dr.Curt Connors who becomes the main villain, the lizard. Ifans character is charming, but the plot lacks an explanation for his motivation for turning humans into lizards—just ridiculous. Martin Sheen and Sally Field are great as Uncle Ben and Aunt May—so likeable. Denis Leary is Captain Stacy, Gwen's father and gives one of the best performances I've seen of Leary; he is one actor that was underrated in this movie. There are some exciting action scenes in this movie, like the high school fight between Spider-Man and the Lizard which was choreographed well and fun to watch. The thing that dragged this movie down for me was retelling the same Peter Parker story again and dragging it out. It takes about an hour into the movie for Peter to become Spider-Man—very slow moving. Also, some scenes felt like a music video rather than an action superhero film. I felt that Marc Webb did a decent job directing a superhero movie. He knew how to integrate action with great emotional-tear-jerker moments that would captivate the audience, especially the final scene. "The Amazing Spider-Man" is not the greatest Spider-Man movie but it is really entertaining, filled with fun action scenes, emotional moments, and great performances by Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Denis Leary. I am giving "The Amazing Spider-Man" a 3 out of 5 stars.
