Prometheus

Synopsis:

The discovery of a clue to mankind's origins on Earth leads a team of explorers to the darkest parts of the universe. Two brilliant young scientists lead the expedition. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) hopes that they will meet a race of benevolent, godlike beings who will in some way verify her religious beliefs, while Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) is out to debunk any spiritual notions. However, neither the scientists nor their shipmates are prepared for the unimaginable terrors that await them.

Movie Review:

"Prometheus" is the first of the prequel stories that takes place before the movie "Alien" and Ridley Scott returned to the franchise that he started in 1978. The greatest aspect of this movie is how it looks; the production designs are flawless with lots of dark tone and the visual effects are stunning and scary. The star of the film is Dr. Shaw played by Noomi Rapace. Rapace does a convincing job portraying a strong female character but is not as memorable as Elle Ripley from the first two "Alien" movies. Logan Marshall-Green plays Dr. Holloway, Shaw's husband and partner. He is just mediocre as this character but his lack personality and arrogant demeanor makes him unlikeable. This movie has a well put together supporting cast like Guy Pearce, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron—I loved all of these characters and their performances in the film. One of my favorite characters is David played by Michael Fassbender. He is by far the best part about this movie. He is the android who created the problems that affected everyone on the Prometheus Ship and his character has real depth and charisma. As you watch the film, you shouldn't really trust this guy, but you like him anyway. The biggest problem I had with this movie is the constant tag line, 'Questions will be answered' and they never are; it's just confusing. "Prometheus" is a great looking film with stunning visual effects, breathtaking imagery, superior acting, and a suspense and horror atmosphere that Ridley Scott is known for, but with a lack of character development and a sense of what the film wants to be, a prequel or a new science fiction thriller, was disappointing. If you want to watch an entertaining science fiction film, Ridley Scott style, just for fun then get a copy of "Prometheus". I am giving "Prometheus" a 3 out of 5 stars.
