The Accountant

Synopsis:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a mathematics savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Using a small-town CPA office as a cover, he makes his living as a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. With a treasury agent (J.K. Simmons) hot on his heels, Christian takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise.

Movie Review:

"The Accountant" is an Action thriller directed by Gavin O'Connor and stars Ben Affleck. In my opinion, this film is underrated and deserves more credit because it is an action-packed story about revenge. This is one of Ben Affleck's best performances in a long time, reminding me of his performance in "The Town" many years ago. Affleck plays a mathematics genius who is a freelance accountant for dangerous criminal organizations. He also has autism, which makes him have some unusual flaws, quirks and habits that many of us can relate to. His character, Christian develops a unique sets of skills in which he can protect himself from his enemies whenever the need arises, especially when he gets closer to the truth that involves millions of dollars. The supporting cast is outstanding. The beautiful and talented Anna Kendrick, and one of my favorite actors, plays Danna Cummings another accountant. She befriends the odd and lonely Christian Wolff and helps him discover the truth about the company she works for. She was excellent as this character as she brought a vulnerability to Danna that you just wanted to protect her at all costs. J.K Simmons plays Ray King a treasury agent who is hot on Christian Wolff's heels and is really good as this level headed, demanding character. Jeffery Tambor and John Lithgow are just supporting characters and do not have much screen time. John Bernthal plays Brax, another assassin who is hired to kill Affleck and Kendrick, and is tied to Christian's past. He is one of my favorite characters in this movie; he is funny and brings a likeable personality to a character that should be unlikable. The only story elements that I didn't like were the FBI subplot -- the scenes slowed the flow of the movie and it was boring, and some of the flashback scenes were too repetitive and too many. The action and fight scenes in this movie are exciting, realistic looking and well-choreographed. Ben Affleck proved what he can do physically on screen and it was outstanding. If you like action thrillers, "The Accountant" has everything that you want to see; action, adventure, twists, great acting and a decent script. I am giving "The Accountant" a 3 out of 5 stars.
