Movie Review:

Spider-Man Homecoming" is the sixth Spider-Man film in the franchise and it is the 2nd reboot because of the disastrous "Amazing Spider-Man 2" but this time, Spidey comes home to Marvel and it is the first film in the MCU. I have loved this character since I was a kid and he is one of my favorite superheroes. This film takes place after the Captain America Civil War where Peter returns home under the guidance of mentor, Tony Stark and he begins to come to terms with his new identity as Spider-Man and at the same time, he tries to return to his normal life. However, Peter gets distracted by thoughts of being an avenger by proving himself when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear. "Spider- Man Homecoming" is one of the best Spider-Man movies since 2004's "Spider-Man 2". This film is entertaining, sweet, action packed and very funny. What makes this Spider-Man movie different than any other one is that it feels more like a coming of age John Hughes movie instead of the typical superhero film. In my opinion, Tom Holland is one of the best Spider-Men characters. His portrayal was charismatic, funny, charming and courageous—all the qualities that make a good Peter Parker/Spider-Man combination. Peter's love interest this time around is Liz (Laura Harrier) and these two actors have great chemistry with each other. They make you understand why she fell for him and why Peter is in love with her…a very well written couple. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is the Washington D.C sequence where Spider-Man must rescue his friends from the Washington Monument. This scene was intense, exciting and action packed. The MCU has always had trouble with creating awesome villains, but in this movie, the Vulture (Michael Keaton) was an intimidating and powerful villain with a complex and interesting backstory; he was one of the best villains I've seen since Loki in "the Avengers" or Alexander Pierce in "Winter Soldier". Unfortunately, I don't have much to say about Michelle (Zendaya). Her character had the most laughs but she didn't have much screen time and she felt forced on the audience. I really liked the scenes between Tony Stark and Peter. Their interactions as mentor-father figure and Spider-Man were insightful, emotional and funny; I laughed through many of them. "Spider-Man Homecoming" is one of the top Spider- Man films I have seen in years. It had humor, action, great cast and characters and plot. I cannot wait to see what Marvel does with these characters in the future. I am going to give "Spider-Man Homecoming" a 4/5 stars.
