Movie Review:

"The Departed" is directed by the legendary director Martin Scorses and is a remake of the Hong Kong movie titled "Infernal Affairs" and might be his best film since "Goodfellas". With an all- star cast that includes Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg you won't be disappointed in this great crime story of deception and corruption form start to finish. Leonardo Dicaprio plays South Boston cop Billy Costigan who has to go undercover to infiltrate the organization of the Boston Mob and Dicaprio gives it his all—it might be one of his best performances as an actor. Jack Nicholson plays the chief Frank Costello and he once again is outstanding turning into his character flawlessly. While Billy is gaining the mobs trust a career criminal named Colin Sullivan played by Matt Damon infiltrates the police department and reports on its activities to his syndicate bosses. Matt Damon is really good in this movie as he goes 'full Boston' with the accent and he has some great argument scenes between him and Mark Wahlberg's character. Sergent Dignam played by Mark Wahlberg steals the show and is one of the best things in this movie. His character does curse a lot but he had me laughing through most of the movie. He was definitely award nomination for his role. Also, with an outstanding supporting cast that includes Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga and Alec Baldwin, this film could help but succeed—all the actors shine in every scene. Martin Scorses proves once again he is one of the great storytellers in Hollywood and how he directs violence in a film like it's an art form, making it feel necessary and right. There is a great deal of deception and death in this movie including a death that I did not see coming. The only flaw I can see in this movie is some scenes feel rushed and some edits felt unnecessary with all the jumps in time. "The Departed" is an outstanding crime thriller full of twists and turns and with powerful acting from a talented cast. I am giving "The Departed" a 4 out of 5 stars.
