Kick-Ass

Synopsis:

Using his love for comics as inspiration, teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) decides to reinvent himself as a superhero -- despite a complete lack of special powers. Dave dons a costume, dubs himself "Kick-Ass," and gets to work fighting crime. He joins forces with the father/daughter vigilante team of Big Daddy and Hit Girl, and then befriends another fledgling crime-fighter called Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), but a scheming mobster soon puts their alliance to the test.

Movie Review:

"Kick-Ass" is directed by one of my favorite directors right now Mathew Vaughn and is a parody of the superhero genre. This movie is about Dave Lizewski, played by Aaron Johnson which was the role that made him a star in Hollywood and made him the actor that he is today, who decides one day to become a superhero so he becomes the alter ego "Kick-Ass". Then he joins forces with the father and daughter vigilante team of Big Daddy and Hit Girl both played by Nicolas Cage who actually is really entertaining in this role and is one of the better roles Cage has had in a long time. Chloe Grace Moretz plays Hit Girl and she might possibly be the stand out in this film as she completely steals the show as this character. She is funny, charming and physically violent and nobody should mess with her. Also, Mark Strong plays the main bad guy of the film as Frank D'Mamico a mob boss who wants Kick-Ass dead. Mark Strong is very scary as this character who will stop at nothing to keep his drug ring going. Christopher Mintz-Plasse plays Chris D'Mamico the mob boss of Frank who might be the weakest aspect of this film. He's fine in the role but he just felt like he was playing the same role he played in "Superbad" a rich high school brat who has father issues. Most of the action scenes are fun to watch and are very well filmed including a warehouse scene that features Big Daddy taking out mobsters in one long shot scene and the entire third act with Hit Girl and Kick-Ass who needs to take down Frank D'Mamico once and for all. However, some of the action scenes are ultra-violent and might be too bloody for some viewers. "Kick-Ass" is a funny, action filled spoof of a superhero film and one of the best I have ever seen— just pure enjoyable entertainment. I am giving "Kick-Ass" a 4 out of 5 stars.
