Movie Review: "X-Men The Last Stand" is the 3rd entry in the X-Men universe and it is one of the most disappointing comic book movies I have seen. The last two X-Men movies were amazing with great character moments and full of action, but this one lacks a good script, has some pointless character moments and unnecessary character deaths that we didn't need. This film centers around a cure for mutations and the discovery leads to a turning point for mutants as they must choose to give up their powers and become human or retain their uniqueness and remain isolated. This draws a war between Charles Xavier and Magneto who believes the cure should not exist. Meanwhile, Jean Grey comes back from the dead and the Phoenix has woken within her which has the ability to destroy anything in her path causing her relationship with her fellow X-Men. The main problem with this movie has to be the storyline. It is too complicated with subplots that slowed the entire movie down and it seemed as if there were so many things going on at once, it loses the audience's attention. They promised us a Phoenix storyline about Jean Grey controlling the Phoenix at the end of X2, one of the best storylines in the X-Men Universe to be told, but instead, we got a boring subplot about this Mutant cure that the government invented. This was the problem in this movie; if they would have cut this entire story element from the movie and just focused on the Phoenix storyline this would have been a better and more enjoyable film. The thing that I hated about this film has to be the bad decision of killing two of my favorite X-men characters -- Scott Summers, AKA Cyclops, and Professor Xavier who are only in the film for a couple of minutes, which was a mistake because they were part of the main focus in the comic storyline but instead they were killed off. The only thing that I liked about this film has to be the action scenes. They were all quite entertaining and action packed. "X-Men The Last Stand" is a disappointing comic book movie. I believe it was a step down from its two great predecessors, and I wish that Bryan Singer would have finished his trilogy rather than let someone else direct this movie; it really lacked his magic touch. I am giving "X-Men The Last Stand" a 2 out of 5 stars.
