X-Men Days of Future Past review

Synopsis: Convinced that mutants pose a threat to humanity, Dr. Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) develops the Sentinels, enormous robotic weapons that can detect a mutant gene and zero in on that person. In the 21st century, the Sentinels have evolved into highly efficient killing machines. With mutants now facing extinction, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) volunteers to go back in time and rally the X-Men of the past to help change a pivotal moment in history and thereby save their future.

Movie Review: "X-Men Days of Future Past" is the 7th movie in the X-Men Universe and this movie is not just one of my favorite X-Men movies, it is one of my favorite comic book movies of all time. What makes this movie work so well has to be how they combined the old cast members from the first 3 movies and the new cast members and focusing on two time periods which in any other movie would not have worked. But Bryan Singer made it work with a strong script and well directed action sequences which we missed from the last film. Like I said, this film takes place in two time periods — the future and 1973 when Dr. Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) develops the Sentinels (enormous robotic weapons that can detect the mutant gene). When Mystique kills him in 1973, she causes the government to support his program and they capture her, and experiment on her and use her power to create the Sentinels from the 21st century who evolve into highly efficient killing machines. With Mutants now facing extinction the X-Men send Wolverine back to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent the doom for both humans and mutants. The cast once again is amazing. This was James Macavoy's best performance as Charles Xavier; in the beginning of the movie he was a very broken and alone character who didn't want to use his powers then as the movie progresses he becomes a stronger character who decides to be the hero and protect mutants and mankind alike. Hugh Jackman was born to play this character and he is great as Wolverine. Michael Fassbender is magnificent as Magneto. He was cold and manipulating and was more of an ally than an enemy in this film. Jennifer Lawrence felt more like she embraced the character Mystique in this movie than she was in the previous movie. It was nice to see all of the old cast again who were fan favorites of the first three films. The action in this film was the best in the series of the X-Men movies. The action was exciting and action packed. One of my favorite action scenes has to be the Quicksilver scene in which he uses his quickness to save Charles, Eric and Wolverine from the guards; it was hilarious to watch and it was one of the most well directed and visually stunning scenes. I wish Quicksilver could have been in the movie longer than 10 minutes of screen time because he stole every scene he was in. One of the saddest moments in this movie was when it switched to the present time and the rest of the X-Men are killed trying to hold off the Sentinels. It was emotional because you have been attached to these characters since the first movie and it was hard to watch Strorm, Colossus and Ice Man die on screen; it was heartbreaking. The editing of the film was brilliantly done in the way in which it transitioned from past to present day. During the 2 hour and ll minute runtime I was never confused. "X-Men Days of Past" is one of my favorite comic book films and it was great to see Bryan Singer bring back the X-Men franchise to its glory again with one of the most action packed X-Men film to date. I am giving "X-Men Days of Future Past" a 5 out of 5 stars.
