Movie Review:

"Blockers" is directed by Kay Canon and is her directorial debut which she knocked out of the park. It is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time and it has some heart felt moments. "Blockers" reminds me of "American Pie" for women. This film is about three high school girls who are trying to lose their virginity on prom night but their parents are trying to stop them. Of course insane escapades ensue making this movie utterly hilarious, genuinely warm and emotional at the same time. Most of the cast are side-splittingly funny including John Cena who previously, hasn't impressed me in comedies, but in this movie he is comical as the over protective father and proved me wrong at how funny he actually is. Leslie Mann plays Lisa one of the parents. Mann gives a decent performance but plays the same type of character in every movie she is in so there are no surprises with this role either. Ike Barinholtz plays Hunter one of the parents. His character is the irresponsible parent; the cliché dad who cheated on his wife. But his character is so funny and likable that the audience cares about him. What makes this movie entertaining is the script-- it is so well-written that it works in all the right places. The actors who stole the show were the three actresses who play the daughters, especially, Geraldine Viswasnthan who played John Cena's daughter. Every line that she performed made me laugh and I almost fell out of my seat in the theater. However, this movie might not be for everyone. It is a little crass and vulgar at times and it tends to run on too long. So if you want a modern day comedy filled with hilarious and heart felt scenes, I highly recommend it. I am giving "Blockers" a 4 out of 5 stars.
