Mission Impossible

Synopsis: When U.S. government operative Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his mentor, Jim Phelps (Jon Voight), go on a covert assignment that takes a disastrous turn, Jim is killed, and Ethan becomes the prime murder suspect. Now a fugitive, Hunt recruits brilliant hacker Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and maverick pilot Franz Krieger (Jean Reno) to help him sneak into a heavily guarded CIA building to retrieve a confidential computer file that will prove his innocence.

Movie Review:

"Mission Impossible," an exceptional under-rated spy thriller, is directed by Brian De Palma and is the first one in the long running critically acclaimed action franchise that started in 1996. Tom Cruise gets his first producers credit as well as bringing to life the captivating and charming Ethan Hunt, the IMF super spy. His superior acting talent that we all enjoy is the reason Tom Cruise has lasted in Hollywood for almost 40 years and he doesn't disappoint us in this role. Brian De Palma directed this movie with his own creative style by adding lots of classic scenes like the diner scene at the beginning of the film. John Voight plays Jim Phelps who is Ethan's mentor and superior. Voight always gets into character and delivers a twist at the very end of the movie that works and even I was surprised by it when I first saw it. Most of Ethan Hunt's IMF team was wasted and you don't care about them except for Luther Stickell played by Ving Rames. Luther is by far the best character in this movie. He is funny, serious and full of charisma; a real fan favorite of the entire franchise. One of the best scenes in the movie is when Ethan Hunt and his team steal the real NOC list from the CIA in Langley, Virginia — it is so suspenseful and intense. And Tom Cruise is amazing as he does his own stunts throughout. There are a few problems like some of the plots get confusing and the climax of the third act ended really quickly and it felt forced. "Mission Impossible'' is a must see spy thriller with great suspenseful scenes, talented actors, a powerful story, and a memorable main character Ethan Hunt. I am giving "Mission Impossible" a 4 out of 5 stars.
