Movie Review:

"Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom" is directed by J.A. Bayona and is the fifth film in this franchise and the second one in this new trilogy. This is an enjoyable blockbuster that has a lot of flaws and sometimes feels like the second film. But that said, I had a good time with the movie and I never felt bored watching it. "Fallen Kingdom" takes place three years after the fall of Jurassic World where the Island of Isla Nublar has a volcano erupting that will wipe out every living dinosaur on the island. Owen Grady and Claire Dearing are confronted with the question, 'Do we save the dinosaurs, or do we let them die?' I loved that theme of the movie as well as the first half of the movie when Owen and Claire are on the island of Isla Nubla. This part of the film was the most intense and classic Jurassic Park for me; it was very nostalgic. Once again Chris Pratt is the best thing in this movie, his sense of humor and charm brings this one dimensional character some personality you can care about. Bryce Dallas Howard is so much better as Claire Dearing and she had real chemistry with Pratt. Together their relationship was believable more in this film than in "Jurassic World". The visual effects in this film are jaw dropping to watch as the images of the dinosaurs are life-like and stretch your imagination as to what is fake or real. I really liked the volcano eruption scene on Isla Nublar. It was terrifying to see but intense viewing it on the big screen. There are some new-comers to this movie that includes Justin Smith as Franklin Webb, a nerdy scared of everything, who tries to be the comedic relief and fails. His character just screams every time a scary dinosaurs shows up. Another is Daniella Pineda who plays Dr. Zia Rodrgiusez a nurse. She had some funny quips and one liners that made me chuckle and I enjoyed her character for what she did. I loved how J.A. Bayona added some horror elements in the second half of the film, but at times, some scenes do feel uneven and ridiculous full of cartoonish villains played by Tobey Jones, Rafe Spall, and Ted Levine who all felt like unbelievable mustache trolling bad guys. Jeff Goldblum is back as Dr. Ian Melcom and was completely wasted; he was only in two scenes, very disappointing. "Jursassic World Fallen Kingdom" is well directed movie with outstanding visual effects, a strong first half that feels like classic Jurassic Park, but a different, shaky second part, questionable villains, and some new annoying characters that kind of killed it for me. I am giving "Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom" a 3 out of 5 stars.
