Star Trek II the Wrath Of Khan

Synopsis: As Adm. James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Capt. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) monitor trainees at Starfleet Academy, another vessel from the United Federation of Planets is about to try out the planet-creating Genesis Device in a seemingly deserted portion of space. In the process, two of Kirk's officers are captured by Khan (Ricardo Montalban), an enemy Kirk thought he'd never see again. Once more, Kirk takes the Enterprise's helm, where he meets Khan's ship in an intergalactic showdown.

Movie Review:

Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan" is directed by Nicholas Meyer and is the second Star Trek film to be released on the big screen. This film came out in the summer of 1982 and it is still considered a science fiction classic and is my favorite Star Trek movie. What makes this film so iconic is the memorable villain, Khan Noonien Sing, someone from Kirk's past coming for revenge because he blames Kirk for stranding him on a deserted planet, and the audience can understand why he is doing this. I thought Ricardo Montalban played his character with such depth that it placed him as one of the best villains in science fiction history. Most of the original characters from the television show returned to their famous roles: William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, now Admiral is feeling bored with his job at Starfleet and missing being in the captain chair on the Enterprise and it is one of the best story arcs in this film. Also, the relationship between Dr. McCoy and Spock are the strongest part of the film and the conversation scenes that they have together are poignant and riveting. Most of the supporting cast are back, too: James Doohan as Scotty, the ships engineer, Walter Koenig as Chekov, the chief science officer, George Taki as Sulu, and Nichelle Nichols as Urhura, and they all play their parts really well and are used at the right time. The stand out of this movie was newcomer Kirstie Alley who plays Lieutenant Savik a Vulcan student who wants to be captain one day. Alley is outstanding in this role and brought so much emotion to her character especially a death scene at the end of the film. With the exception of a few outer space shots that are dated, in my opinion, this movie is a science fiction masterpiece with satisfying character arcs, moments with familiar characters that we love, and an emotional ending. I am giving "Star Trek II the Wrath of Khan" a 5 out of 5 stars.
