X-Men Dark Phoenix

Synopsis: This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet -- one of their own.

Movie Review:

"X-Men Dark Phoenix" is the 12th and final chapter in the 20th century Fox’s franchise and in my opinion, it isn’t the disaster that other critics have been saying. I found it to be a really enjoyable movie. "Dark Phoenix" is about Jean Grey developing incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. Most of all, I really liked the cast and the characters they play. Sophia Turner is a great fit as Jean Grey. As the Dark Phoenix she is an intimidating and fearless character. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are the two standouts in the movie; they steal the show every time they are on screen. Their chemistry together was easy to watch not forced; I only wish they had more screen time together. I also liked all the supporting X-Men characters like Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Cyclops (Ty Sheridan), and Knight Crawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee); they added some entertaining action scenes to the movie. The first act nicely sets up this movie and the third act is incredible to watch as the entire train sequence is action packed and with all the X-Men fighting together. This part saves the film because it does have some problems. There are some boring parts that drag and some storylines that are rushed. And I really love Jennifer Lawrence but she was really bad in this movie. It is so obvious that she was sick of being in the X-Men movies as she delivered a bland performance — it was tough to watch. Finally, Jessica Chastain plays Vux an alien species and she has to be one of the worst villains in any of the X-Men films that I have seen. Her character lacked appeal and clarity — just a train wreck. "Dark Phoenix" is better than "X-Men Origins Wolverine", "X-men the Last Stand", and "X-Men Apocalypse" but still not my favorite. I am giving "X-Men Dark Phoenix" a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
