Movie Review:

"Angel has Fallen” is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and is the third installment of the 'Fallen' series. Once again, Gerard Butler stars as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, but this time he is accused of a failed assassination attempt on the U.S. president Allan Trumbull, played by the great Morgan Freeman who also reprises his role. I highly enjoyed this movie and I think it was way better than the second one. I really liked how it is a throw-back to the classic 90’s action movies with a fun take on the film “The Fugitive”. This third film was more of a personal story for Mike; he is suffering from injuries of the last two films, he is getting older, and he is scared of losing his wife Leah (Piper Perabo) and his new born daughter. Jada Pinkett Smith plays a new character, FBI agent Thompson. Her main job is to hunt down Mike and figure out who is behind the assassination attempt. Pinkett Smith brings nothing special to this character but steps right into that stereotypical and bland serious FBI agent who is there to move the plot along. In my opinion she was the weakest aspect of the film. This time around, Wade Jennings played by Danny Huston, a former marine turned mercenary, is the villain. He is Mike's friend and former war buddy. This villain makes you understand the vendetta against Mike and why he wants to kill him. The one who steals the show was Nick Nolte as Clay Banning, Mike’s father. Nick Nolte's humor adds a soft touch to the movie which is fun to watch. And the on screen chemistry between Gerard Butler and Nick Nolte was a believable father and son dynamic. I felt there were a few problems with the film — there was an obvious twist with the Vice President that I saw a mile away. And there were a few pacing issues making some scenes way too long. "Angel has Fallen" is just a fun popcorn movie full of excitement and entertainment. I am giving “Angel has Fallen” a 3 out of 5 stars.
