Movie Review:

“Ad Astra” is directed by James Gray and is an original science fiction movie starring Brad Pitt. This film is a sincere story of love between a father and son which is the heart of the movie. Brad Pitt gives the audience an emotional ride as the sincere and likeable astronaut Roy McBride. Pitt's scenes with Tommy Lee Jones were the best scenes in the movie and saved this film from total failure. I found that director James Gray tried to capture the feel of a classic Stanley Kubric movie like “2001 a Space Odyssey” and the visual effects were amazing to see. Every frame of the film was superbly shot full of space scenes. Unfortunately, this movie had a lot of issues: It was very slow paced and just boring at times. The story wasn’t very compelling or interesting. The supporting cast was disappointing — Liv Tyler plays Brad Pitt's wife and is only in flashbacks and she has one line of dialogue. Ruth Negga only has one scene and Donald Sutherland has a small cameo, both were wasted. And the scenes that involved killer monkeys felt out of place, distracting and weird. "Ad Astra" was a beautiful looking film with visuals that made me think I was in space the entire time and a shining performance from Brad Pitt. I liked this movie but I didn't love it so I am giving "Ad Astra" 3 out of 5 stars.
