Doctor Sleep

Synopsis: Struggling with alcoholism, Dan Torrance remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child. His hope for a peaceful existence soon becomes shattered when he meets Abra, a teen who shares his extrasensory gift of the "shine." Together, they form an unlikely alliance to battle the True Knot, a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal.

Movie Review:

"Doctor Sleep" is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s classic film "The Shining" and it is a chilling sequel that is my favorite Stephen King adaptions since the first “It” in 2017. Ewan McGregor plays adult Dan Torrance and he portrays the traumatized, frightened and troubled character (who tries to forget the events that happened to him decades earlier) brilliantly. Up and coming actress Kyleign Curran played Abra, a strong character who stood out in this film. Her chemistry and mentoring relationship with Danny was powerful and they were some of my favorite scenes to watch. Rebecca Ferguson plays Rose the Hat who leads a cult called the True Knot. She is intelligent, intimidating and the creepiest and most disturbing villains I have seen in a horror movie. I really liked how the director Mike Flanagan recreated some of the eerie imagery used in "The Shining" — it was effective with scares that that I didn’t see coming. The only problem that I had with this movie was that the beginning was slow moving and full of explanatory facts about a young Danny after "The Shining". It was just too much back-story. However, the action scenes and good scare scenes elevate this movie from being good to great. "Doctor Sleep" is a worthy sequel to a classic and I really enjoyed it. I am giving "Doctor Sleep" a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
