Knives Out

Synopsis: A detective investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family.

Movie Review:

"Knives Out" is an original film written and directed by Rian Johnson of whom I am a big fan. This film has been on the list of my most anticipated movies to see and it didn’t disappoint. "Knives Out" is a clever, witty and entertaining who-dun-it mystery that had me guessing until the end because it is full of unexpected twists and surprises. It is the most entertained I have been at a movie in a very long time. Rian Johnson managed to assemble this incredible cast of characters. Daniel Craig plays the main detective Benoit Blanc and he was magnificent in the role. Craig is funny, charismatic and cunning with a cheap southern accent that he somehow made work. The supporting cast of family members led by Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, and Katherine Langford were all despicable to watch on screen but hilarious at the same time. Ana de Armas was my favorite actor in this film. She plays Marta Cabrera the likeable nurse and caretaker for Harlan Thrombey and her scenes with Daniel Craig are intense. In my opinion Rian Johnson Is one the best directors working in the business right now with is editing and directing style and his ability to bring back the murder mystery genre to new heights. The only nit-pick that I have about "Knives Out" is the character Jacob Thrombey (Jaedeen Martel) felt wasted and lacked character development. "Knives Out" is one of my favorite movies of the year so far. It was an ingenious murder mystery with a comedic flair. I am giving "Knives Out" a 5 out of 5 stars.
