Jumanji: The Next Level

Synopsis: When Spencer goes back into the fantastical world of Jumanji, pals Martha, Fridge and Bethany re-enter the game to bring him home. But the game is now broken -- and fighting back. Everything the friends know about Jumanji is about to change, as they soon discover there's more obstacles and more danger to overcome.

Movie Review:“Jumanji: The Next Level” is the sequel to the reboot and the original 1995 "Jumanji" film and is another fun ride loaded with laughs, but it is a step down from the last movie that came out in 2017. Most of the core cast returned for this one — Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan are once again fantastic as the three avatars from the game, and Jack Black is definitely the standout to watch as he brought most of the laughs to this movie. Things are different this time around when Spencer’s grandfather played by Danny DeVito gets stuck in the body of Dwayne Johnson’s avatar and Danny Glover gets stuck in the body of Kevin Hart’s avatar. DeVito and Johnson are hilarious and are great additions to the cast. Another new addition to the cast was Awkankina who with her quick wit complements a comedic presence to the film. Nick Jonas returns but doesn’t add anything special to the movie and all of his jokes fall flat; he's just not funny. The action and the sense of adventure was fun to watch, however some of the action set pieces are repetitive. The biggest problem that I had with this movie is that I felt like I had seen this plot before; it seems too much like the first film only bigger (and sometimes bigger is not better). “Jumanji: The Next Level” is an entertaining movie with funny moments, lots of action scenes, and a huge likable cast with some great newcomers, but it all felt too familiar. I am giving “Jumanji: The Next Level” 3 out of 5 stars.
