Emma.

Synopsis: Following the antics of a young woman, Emma Woodhouse, who lives in Georgian- and Regency-era England and occupies herself with matchmaking - in sometimes misguided, often meddlesome fashion- in the lives of her friends and family.

Movie Review:

“Emma” is directed by Autumn de Wilde and is a new re-telling of the classic Jane Austin novel of the same name. So far, this movie is one of the best films I have seen this year. It is a clever, funny and romantic period piece. Actress Anya Taylor Joy (I have been a fan for a long time) plays Emma and she proves that she has a range of talents as she balances funny and emotional scenes with ease. Johny Flynn plays her best friend George Knightly – their interactions were full of humor and I loved their chemistry together. The other supporting actors that surround Emma include Tanya Reynolds, Mia Goth, Josh O’Connor and Miranda Hart and they were all entertaining to watch especially the way Emma gets irritated with each of the characters. In my opinion, the best part of the movie was Bill Nighy who plays Pa, Emma’s father. The very uptight character freaks out over simple stuff like a draft or snow and, he is hilarious in every scene that he is in. The only problem I found with the movie was that it is very predictable and the middle drags a bit. All in all, this simple movie is smartly written, funny and full of great performances. I am giving “Emma” a 4 out of 5 stars.
