Vampires vs. The Bronx

Synopsis: The film follows a group of teenagers who are forced to protect their neighborhood in the Bronx when a gathering of vampires invades.

Movie Review:

“Vampire vs the Bronx” was directed by Osmany Rodriguez and is a horror comedy that is entertaining with impressive acting by the three main kid-actors in the movie. Jaden Michael plays the lead Miguel who with his three best friends fight the vampires who want to take control of the Bronx neighborhood where they live. Michael reveals his talent in this role, and it shows with the on-screen chemistry he has with the friends characters. Bobby and Luis (Miguel’s best friends) played by Gerald Jones and Gregory Diaz are both very good. I especially thought Luis was the standout character in this movie. His portrayal of an anxiety ridden teen was relatable to many and hilarious at times. Sarah Gordan plays Vivian the leader of the vampires and she is a creepy flesh-eating vampire. Shea Whigham plays Frank Polidori a real estate Tycoon who is trying to take all the business from the Bronx. His character is a bit predictable but fun to watch. Method Man plays Father Jackson and was surprisingly very funny in the movie. I liked the acting in the movie, but there were some issues. The plot was silly and predictable so there were no surprises or twists. There was some awful CGI. And the vampires’ make-up was laughable – I felt like I was watching a cheap comedy Sketch. There was also an unnecessary gang sub plot; it just felt out of place and it didn’t go anywhere. But despite the major flaws the movie is very funny, with three impressive performances from its three major leads. This comedy/horror is an exciting Halloween movie. I am giving “Vampire vs the Bronx” a 3 out of 5 stars.
