The New Mutants

Synopsis: Five teenage mutants -- Mirage, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Sunspot and Magik -- undergo treatments at a secret institution that will cure them of their dangerous powers. Invited by Dr. Cecilia Reyes to share their stories, their memories soon turn into terrifying realities as they start to question why they're being held and who's trying to destroy them.

Movie Review:

“The New Mutants” is an X-Men spinoff from director Josh Boone which had been delayed multiple times, and I thought it was going to be bad but turns out it was actually an enjoyable comic book movie with a great cast. What I liked about “The New Mutants” is that it felt like a low budget horror movie with some chilling scares and some creepy moments, but it was successful. I really liked the 5 young mutants in this move -- Mirage (Blu Hunt), Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Cannonball (Charlie Heaton), Sunspot (Henry Zaga), and Magik (Anya Taylor Joy). The mutant who stood-out for me was Magik played by the Anya Taylor Joy. She was a strong character who I would like to see in other future films. Mirage (Blu Hunt) and Wolfbane (Maisie Williams) had amazing chemistry in scene after scene. They were a believable couple who connected with the audience whenever they were on screen together. Unfortunately, “The New Mutants” did have its problems. The movie sends some mix signals as to whether it wants to be a horror movie or a romance. Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga) who plays the villain was a weak, shallow and predictable character. Finally, there were some interesting action set pieces in the finale, but it was a typical X-Men ending that left me disappointed. “The new Mutants” is a flawed but entertaining horror comic book film. I am giving “The New Mutants” a 3/5 stars.
