Air

Synopsis:

Sonny Vaccaro and Nike pursue basketball rookie Michael Jordan, creating a partnership that revolutionizes the world of sports and contemporary culture.

Movie Review:

“Air” is directed by Ben Affleck and is the true inspiring story of how Michael Jordan one of the greatest basketball players of all time signs with Nike and everything changed in the sports world. So far, this is one of my favorite movies this year -- it is crowd pleasing with fantastic acting and a great sports theme. Matt Damon (his best performance since the “Martian”) plays Sonny Vaccaro the recruiter that is trying to build the basketball brand at Nike and is the reason why Michael Jordan signed with them in the first place. His funny sarcastic sense of humor made me laugh throughout the movie. Ben Affleck plays Phil Knight the CEO of Nike, and his character has great chemistry with Sonny. Their banter back and forth talking about business was sharp and witty. The two standouts were Jason Bateman and surprisingly Chris Tucker who were hilarious especially with Matt Damon. Every line of dialogue was smartly written and made every conversation interesting. Viola Davis plays Jordan’s mother Deloris, and she delivers a powerful performance with lots of emotion. Ben Affleck did an amazing job behind the camera capturing the time of the 80s perfectly with the fashion, music, and pop culture references. The issue I had with this movie is it’s a little predictable at times and there are no surprises. But this is an entertaining sports movie about taking risks. I am giving “Air” 4.5/5 stars.
