Synopsis: Cameron Cade is a rising quarterback who suffers a potentially career-ending injury after being attacked by an unhinged fan. Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White, offers to train him at an isolated compound. However, as the training accelerates, Isaiah's charisma turns into something darker, sending Cam down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.
Movie Review:
The film "Him," directed by Justin Tipping, is an original horror movie produced by the renowned Jordan Peele. This association heightened my anticipation; however, despite two commendable performances and impressive cinematography, I found the film disappointing, particularly due to its themes and ideas, which lost me by the conclusion. Tyric Withers portrays Cameron Cade, a promising quarterback aspiring to excel. His performance is compelling, emotional, and charming, rendering him a likable character. Marlon Wayans plays Isaiah White, one of the greatest football players in history, delivering an outrageous and entertaining performance that, for me, overshadowed the rest of the film. The visuals are striking, contributing to the film's aesthetic appeal. The initial 10 to 15 minutes were quite engaging, and I was captivated during the first half. However, as the film transitioned from the second act to the third, it introduced a plethora of convoluted themes surrounding obsession and religion, which felt overly complicated, silly, and ridiculous, prompting me to consider leaving the theater prematurely. The third act became excessively chaotic, completely losing my interest and proving to be terrible. At times, the film resembled a music video, featuring incessant montages of characters drinking, exercising, and partying, which ultimately bored me. While "Him" presents some innovative ideas and themes, it ultimately lacks substance, making it one of the worst films I have encountered this year. I rate it 1.5 out of 5 stars.
