Old

Synopsis: A thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly reducing their entire lives into a single day.

Movie Review:

“Old” is the 13th film directed by M. Night Shyamalan and it is loosely based on the French language-swiss graphic novel called “Sandcastle”. Even though this film is flawed with some poor acting and writing, I liked it. One of the best things in this movie was the set up and the intriguing story about this one family and a few other people trapped on a private island. The father Guy is played by Gael Garcia Bernal and the mother Prisca is played by Vicky Krieps. Both are relatable characters experiencing marital and health problems. The actors who steal the show are Alex Wolff and Thomasin Mackenzie who play Trent and Maddox (brother and sister) the most likeable characters with great on-screen chemistry, who age rapidly -- they quickly become teenagers, but they act like children. It does have some creepy dialogue and scary moments that will make you feel uneasy at times. Besides the main three leads, I thought the side characters were annoying and underwritten. An M. Night movie always ends in a big twist that you never see coming, but this one was a disappointment with a lazy let down. However, with all its flaws, I found it entertaining. I am giving “Old” a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
