Synopsis: On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Year's Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives when the terror of Y2K becomes a reality and all machines rise up against humanity.

Movie Review:

"Y2k,” directed by Kyle Mooney, is an original coming-of-age comedy with a mix of horror. It's a fun party movie that I enjoyed. I really liked Jaesden Martell as Eli, a skinny, awkward kid with a crush on the hottest girl in school. I totally related to him, especially since I saw myself in his character back in high school. He had great chemistry with Laura, played by the talented Rachel Zegler, who portrayed a hacker with emotional depth.

Lachlan Watson stole the show as Ash, a punk rocker with hilarious lines and humor. Julian Dennison, who played Danny, Eli's best friend, was one of the most interesting characters, but I wished they used him more. There was a fun celebrity cameo that added to the plot.

While the main four characters were great, the other characters were unlikable and underdeveloped. The first act was a bit predictable, following similar plot points from other coming-of-age party movies. However, when the horror elements kicked in, with brutal bloody deaths, it became more entertaining.

Overall, "Y2k" feels like a first-time director's attempt to blend genres, but it falls short at times. It's a weird, awkward, but sometimes funny comedy with good intentions that doesn't quite stick the landing. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars.
