Trap

Synopsis: A man and his teenage daughter realize they're at the center of a dark and sinister event while watching a concert.

Movie Review:

"Trap," directed by M. Night Shyamalan, is a new original thriller that stands out as one of the better films from Shyamalan in recent years. Josh Hartnett delivers a crazy and fun performance as Cooper, a father who takes his fourteen-year-old daughter to a concert, but in reality, he is a dangerous serial killer known as the Butcher. Hartnett's over-the-top portrayal of this monstrous character who can't seem to stop killing people is what really elevates the movie.

Ariel Donoghue plays Riley, Cooper's daughter, who remains oblivious to her father's dark secret. She gives a solid performance in her role. Saleka Shyamalan, the real-life daughter of director M. Night Shyamalan, portrays Lady Raven, a popular pop star similar to Taylor Swift. Saleka showcases her talent not only as a singer but also as an actress, especially in the second half of the movie where her character's role becomes more significant.

The first half of the movie had me hooked as Cooper tries to navigate his way out of the trap set for him at the concert, creating intense moments and keeping me on the edge of my seat. However, my enjoyment took a hit in the second half when Saleka's storyline took a silly and illogical turn, making the movie less enjoyable for me. The writing and some of the dialogue felt out of place at times.

Overall, "Trap" is a decent thriller with a standout performance by Josh Hartnett in the lead role. I am giving it a 3/5 stars.
