Umma

Synopsis: A woman's quiet life on an American farm takes a terrifying turn when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea.

Movie Review:

Umma” is directed by Iris Shim, and it is an original horror movie that tries to be scary. Unfortunately, this movie is the opposite – it’s boring, weird in a bad way and one of the worst endings I have seen. The only good thing in this film is Sandra Oh’s solid performance as Amanda an overprotective mother. Her relationship with her daughter Chris, played by Fivel Stewart are some of the best scenes in the movie. Most of the supporting cast like Odeya Rush and Dermot Mulroney are completely wasted as these useless characters that had nothing to do but repeat bad lines. The biggest issues with this film are uninteresting characters and ideas, lack of spontaneous jump scares, and a dull, predictable plot. Nothing can save this movie. I am giving “Umma” a 1.5/5 stars.
