A Good Person

Synopsis:

Allison is a young woman with a wonderful fiancé, a blossoming career, and supportive family and friends. However, her world crumbles in the blink of an eye when she survives an unimaginable tragedy, emerging from recovery with an opioid addiction and unresolved grief. In the following years, she forms an unlikely friendship with her would-be father-in-law that gives her a fighting chance to put her life back together and move forward.

Movie Review:

“A Good Person” is written and directed by Zach Braff, and it is a drama about redemption with talented performances by its cast. Florence Pugh plays Allison who has a loving husband and great career until a tragedy ends it all. Pugh delivers emotional as well as comedic scenes and basically carries the weight of a weak narrative. Morgan Freeman plays Daniel Allison’s would-be father-in-law a former alcoholic who helps Allison put her life back together. The supporting cast (of Molly Shannon, Zoe Lister-Jones, Chinaza Uche) plays significant key people in Allison’s life and add to the story. Celeste O’ Connor plays Ryan a grieving teenager whose character is whiney and unlikable at times. She is the weakest part about this movie. There are many issues I had with this film. There is way too much cursing throughout which was unnecessary and took away from the actual dialogue. And the melodrama was excessive and felt forced at times. I thought this was a heartwarming story with an amazing message about life, and the two lead performances save this movie from total disaster. I am giving “A Good Person” 3.5/5 stars.
