Movie Review:

“A Haunting in Venice” is directed by Kenneth Branagh, and it is the third movie in this modern retelling of this trilogy. I thought this is the best of the three with an intriguing mystery that had somewhat of a supernatural take that worked. Kenneth Branagh returns to play detective Hercules Poirot just like the previous two films. But in this one, he does not believe in the supernatural of ghosts and spirits that made this story more interesting. This movie has a great ensemble cast like Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly and Emma Laird, and they were all entertaining as the suspects of this mystery. The person who stole the show was a young actor Jude Hill who plays Leopold Feffier the son of Jamie Dornan’s character. His on-screen chemistry with Kenneth Branagh was fun to watch. My biggest issue with the movie was the horror aspect – it was not scary enough with predictable jump scares that I saw coming a mile away. I am a huge fan of Tina Fey, but I wasn’t a fan of her character; she was unlikable, silly and tries too much to be over the top that didn’t work. This is still an entertaining mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I am giving “A Haunting in Venice” 3.5/5 stars.
