Abigail

Synopsis: A group of would-be criminals kidnaps the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful underworld figure. Holding her for ransom in an isolated mansion, their plan starts to unravel when they discover their young captive is actually a bloodthirsty vampire.

Movie Review:

"Abigail" is directed by Matt Bettimelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, also known as the team of "Radio Silence." It's a new isolated horror comedy that's a blast, with plenty of gore and a large cast that makes it a fun vampire horror movie. Melissa Barrera shines as Joey, a criminal with a compelling emotional backstory that makes her the most relatable character in the film. Alisha Weir steals the show as Abigail, a 12-year-old vampire who can switch from sweet and innocent to a bloodthirsty monster in an instant. Kathryn Newton adds humor as Sammy, a young hacker, and her character's development at the end is a nice touch. The rest of the cast, including Kevin Durand and Angus Cloud, deliver solid performances as well. Dan Stevens is fantastic as Frank, the group's leader, bringing a crazy energy and a great New York accent to the role. The film has some effective jump scares that will make you fear the 12-year-old vampire on a killing spree. However, some actors, like Giancarlo Esposito, feel underutilized, and the twist with his character comes off as silly. The third act may be brainless and cartoonish, but overall, "Abigail" is a bloody good time at the movies. I am Giving it a 4/5 stars.
