Synopsis: Stephanie Smothers and Emily reunite on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily's extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.
Movie Review:
"Another Simple Favor," directed once again by Paul Feig, is the sequel to the 2018 surprise hit based on the book of the same name. While the movie tries to capture the fun twists and turns of the original, it ends up feeling a bit too silly and off-tone. Despite this, it was still an okay time, but ultimately a disappointing sequel.
Anna Kendrick shines in her role as Stephanie Smothers, a mother blogger, detective, and best-selling author. Her wit, silliness, and charismatic nature make her the standout of the movie, showcasing Anna Kendrick's perfect comedic timing. Blake Lively also delivers a strong performance as Emily Nelson, the villain of the first movie. The chemistry between Kendrick and Lively is palpable, making their dynamic on screen believable and entertaining.
The movie does a great job of showcasing Italy as a beautiful city, with stunning locations that come alive on screen. The supporting cast, including Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Alex Newell, and Andrew Rannells, add humor and hilarity to every scene they are in.
However, Henry Golding's portrayal of Sean, Emily's ex-husband, falls a bit flat, making his character unlikable and annoying. Allison Janney's performance also leaves something to be desired.
The twist near the end of the movie was cheesy and silly, feeling more like a soap opera than a thriller. Overall, "Another Simple Favor" is a fine sequel, earning a 3/5 stars from me.
