Argylle

Synopsis: Reclusive author Elly Conway writes best-selling espionage novels about a secret agent named Argylle who's on a mission to unravel a global spy syndicate. However, when the plots of her books start to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, the line between fiction and reality begin to blur.

Movie Review:

“Argylle” is directed by Matthew Vaughn, and it reminds me of the classic movie “Romancing the Stone” with spies – it’s entertaining at times with its stylish action scenes and star-studded cast, but it could have been better. The best thing in this movie is Sam Rockwell who plays Agent Aidan Wilde a skilled spy that steals the audience with his unending charm, hilarious sense of humor and skilled action scenes. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Elly Conway a best-selling novelist that is being targeted by the agency and she has great chemistry with Sam Rockwell. Bryan Cranston plays villain Director Ritter a typical generic bad guy who yelled throughout the movie. Catherine O’Hara plays Elly’s mother, and she was funny and likeable in every scene. Henry Cavill and John Cene both play imaginary characters that Elly wrote and are wasted and hardly in the movie. This movie has too many things going on at the same time and too many twists that come out of nowhere that made it even sillier than it is. Although there are some amazing action scenes, some are a little wacky and are heavily used with bad CGI. In my opinion, this movie was a real disappointment.  I am giving “Argylle” a 3/5 stars.
