Army of the Dead

Synopsis: After a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries takes the ultimate gamble by venturing into the quarantine zone for the greatest heist ever.

Movie Review:

“Army of the Dead” is directed by Zach Snyder and it is his second zombie movie in 15 years. He delivered a zombie heist film with a cool mythology theme filled with exciting action scenes with a fun team of soldiers. Dave Bautista plays Scott Ward a fellow marine who has a tragic past and is hired to steal 2 million dollars in a vault in Las Vegas where a Zombie outbreak happened. Bautista is the most likable and relatable character in the movie, and he stands out in the action scenes that he is in. Ella Purnell plays Kate Ward (Scott’s daughter) and she is my favorite character in this film. Her emotional story line and heartbreaking scenes are intense to watch, especially the father/daughter relationship. I did enjoy most of the supporting cast who plays the team --Tig Notaro plays a pilot Marianne and she brings some humor to the movie. The movie sets up this cool zombie world with not just one type of zombie but two. The Alpha are much smarter and more dangerous and are harder to kill than the normal zombies. I didn’t like the two classes of zombies; I thought it was ridiculous at times. Also, the film is way too long and the action scenes are too bloody, too gruesome, and too many. And, the ending is predictable and sets up for future films. Although the film has some issues, I enjoyed the performances of Dave Bautista and Ella Purnell and the action scenes. I am giving “Army of the Dead” a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
