Barbie

Synopsis:

Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.

Movie Review:

“Barbie” is directed by Greta Gerwig, and it is based on the popular girl doll. Surprisingly, this movie is filled with clever humor and originality with a great positive message about being a woman in the 21st century. What made this movie standout was the excellent writing of the characters that are so likable and relatable. Margot Robbie plays Barbie a beautiful and charismatic sometimes oblivious doll brought to life on the big screen, and she plays her perfectly. Ryan Gosling steals the show as Ken Barbie’s boyfriend, and his wit, charm and sarcastic humor added up to some of the best scenes in the movie. Another standout was America Ferrera who plays Gloria a working mom employed at Mattel. She brings the heart and emotions to a funny comedy. I also loved the mother and daughter storyline with Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt) a moody teen too cool for school type of person. Those scenes were hilarious to watch. This movie has a large cast, but some actors who played the other Barbies and Kens were wasted and didn’t have much to do which made their appearances feel like cameos. I am such a huge fan of Will Ferrell, and when he shows up, he is hilarious, but his character had no impact over the main story, and he seemed out of place. Most of the humor does work but there are times it does get a little silly and ridiculous. In my opinion “Barbie” is very entertaining and a movie for everyone. “Barbie” was a delight from start to finish. I am giving it a 4/5 stars.
