Cry Macho

Synopsis: A onetime rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder, in 1978, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man's young son home and away from his alcoholic mum. Crossing rural Mexico on their back way to Texas, the unlikely pair faces an unexpectedly challenging journey, during which the world-weary horseman may find his own sense of redemption through teaching the boy what it means to be a good man.

Movie Review:

“Cry Macho” is based on the book of the same name. It is directed by the legendary Clint Eastwood, and he is starring in it as well. I was super excited about this movie because I am a huge fan of Clint Eastwood movies, but sadly, I was disappointed in this one. I thought it was a boring, lifeless film, and Clint Eastwood is now 91 years old, and he is showing his age in this one. He plays his typical tough type character, and he is likeable and charming – the audience can’t help but root for him. This is a well-directed film with outstanding visuals of Mexico. The young kid that Eastwood travels with is named Rafa played by Eduardo Minett. My problem with this character is that he was poorly written, just unlikable, annoying, and whiny. I thought the romance with this older woman Leta played by Fernanda Urrejola felt weird, unnecessary and cringe worthy at times. Some of the action scenes were unrealistic and Eastwood should have cast someone else for the lead role. He also took some of the same plot points from his other films like “Gran Torino” and “Million Dollar Baby.” I was super disappointed in this movie. I am giving Cry Macho a 2/5 stars.
