Synopsis: The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity's savior before the disaster he's unleashed destroys everything.

Movie Review:

"Digger" is helmed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and serves as an original dark comedy featuring Tom Cruise, one of my go-to actors. This might genuinely be his finest work—emotional, heartbreaking, unhinged, and hilarious. He's operating on a completely different level here; the guy was absolutely phenomenal. I had massive expectations for this film this year, but honestly, it fell short. I'm torn on how I actually feel about it. There are stellar performances, sharp direction, and gorgeous cinematography, but the core narrative leans heavily into satire about politics and climate change—stuff that'll definitely rub some people the wrong way, though I dug it. Setting aside the plot's messiness, Tom Cruise plays Rockwell, a billionaire who runs the world and triggers glacier collapse that'll wreck everything. Once again, he's the beating heart of this movie, completely inhabiting this snobbish, selfish narcissist who only thinks about himself. He's phenomenal, and I genuinely think he deserves an Oscar nod for what he pulls off here. Riz Ahmed plays Ganesh, the lead scientist assisting Rockwell, and he's equally captivating with witty exchanges between him, Tom, and the rest of the cast. John Goodman takes on President Compson, delivering an unhinged, hilarious performance with killer satire and comedy that absolutely landed. The supporting ensemble—Jesse Plemons, Emma D'Arcy, Michael Stuhlberg, Burn Gorman, Sophie Wild, and Sandra Huller—all bring quirky, bizarre energy that feels straight out of a Wes Anderson flick. I was totally into the first 30 minutes, which plays like a live-action "South Park" episode with political humor poking fun at our society and the ultra-wealthy. It was genuinely funny and had me cracking up, but then a twist showed up that felt too self-aware and shifted it into pure satire territory, leaving me scratching my head occasionally. "Digger" is a well-performed, funny satire packed with heavy commentary on climate change and will be a cult classic in 20 years but despite the messy story I enjoyed the big swigs that I takes I am giving this movie a 3.5/5 stars.
