Movie Review:
"Disclosure Day" is directed by Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest filmmakers ever. He’s returning to his roots with this original sci-fi blockbuster. His emotional storytelling, high energy, and the amazing performances from the two leads make this one of my favorite films of the year. You can really tell Spielberg knows his stuff about aliens and the top-secret stories that have circulated over the years, packed with tons of Easter eggs that will keep the die-hard fans fully engaged. He also delivers thrilling action and chase scenes that are incredibly well shot, proving he’s one of the best in the entertainment industry. Josh O’Connor plays Dr. Daniel Kellen, a former meteorologist turned whistleblower who’s on the run from the government. He gives a compelling and engaging performance as a likable, charming, and smart character, making him a fantastic leading man that I was really impressed with. His chemistry with Margaret Fairchild, a local weather lady, is electric, and I loved their relationship. Emily Blunt absolutely steals the show with her character, delivering one of the best performances of her career. She effortlessly switches between English, Russian, Spanish, and even a made-up alien language on the fly, making her incredibly captivating and proving she deserves an Oscar nomination. Colin Firth plays Noah Scanlon, the main villain and a top government official pursuing them. He’s great, giving a sophisticated and intelligent performance, even if his character is a bit generic. But hey, it’s Colin Firth, so he still brings charisma to the role. Eve Hewson plays Jane Blankenship, Daniel’s girlfriend, and she also shines as a woman who used to be a nun but has strayed from her faith; her story is the most intriguing in the film. Wyatt Russell provides a funny and charming performance as Jackson, Margaret’s boyfriend, but his character feels a bit pointless and doesn’t contribute much to the plot. Colman Domingo is also fantastic as Hugo, the guy who wants everyone to know the truth about aliens, brings a peaceful vibe to his movie, which I really liked. It’s a bit lengthy, and the third act might split opinions, but "Disclosure Day" is still a solid sci-fi blockbuster that shows Stephen Spielberg still knows what he’s doing. I’m giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
