Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Synopsis: Doctor Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens a portal to the multiverse. However, a threat emerges that may be too big for his team to handle.

Movie Review:

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is directed by Sam Raimi who returns to direct a comic film after a 15-year absence. This is the 28th film in the MCU and is the sequel to the 2016 film. This is an entertaining sequel with intense action scenes and talented acting performances from its main cast. This does feel like a Sam Raimi movie with lots of scary images and jump scares that resembles a horror movie at times. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the iconic Doctor Strange and in my opinion, this is his best performance as this character. He is more complex but relatable and he has a better arc in this movie than the previous films. His romantic relationship with Christine Palmer is a strong plotline and more of his past is revealed this time around. Benedict Wong returns to play the new Sorcerer Supreme and he has some awesome action scenes that are exciting to watch. Rachel McAdams plays Christine Palmer Doctor Strange’s love interest, and she has great chemistry with Benedict Cumberbatch. Elizabeth Olsen reprises her role as Wanda Maximoff/ the Scarlet Witch (from hero to super villain), and she goes to the extreme as this terrifying, menacing character who believes that she is doing the right thing. Xochiti Gomez plays a new character America Chaves who can transport to other dimensions and universes. She is powerful, funny and has a great father/daughter relationship that was fun to watch -- Gomez steals the show as this character. No movie is perfect and this one does have some issues. It feels overloaded with cameo appearances, the middle of the film is slow, there is too much explanation of the Multiverse, and it is full of the most violent bloody kills that I have ever seen in a MCU film. With that said, I still recommend seeing this action filled sequel. I am giving “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” a 4/5 stars.
